Conversion of Hours into Minutes
We will discuss here about the conversion of hours into
minutes. We know 1 hour is equal to 60 minutes which is required to convert the
measuring time from hours to minutes.

We know that
1 hour 60 minutes
So, 3 hours = 3 × 60 minutes
= 180 minutes
Remember
🟢 To convert hours into minutes, multiply by 60.
🟢 To convert minutes into hours, divide by 60.

Let us take few examples to understand the conversion of minutes and hours.
1. How many minutes are there in 3 hours?
Solution:
Now, 1 hour = 60 minutes
So, 6 hours = 3 × 60 minutes
= 180 minutes
2. Convert 6 hours into minutes.
We know, 1 hour = 60 minutes
Therefore, 6 hours = (6 × 60) minutes = 360 minutes
3. Convert 18 hours into minutes.
We know, 1 hour = 60 minutes
Therefore, 6 hours = (18 × 60) minutes = 1080 minutes
4. Convert 9 hours 35 minutes into minutes.
First, we convert 9 hours into minutes and then we add 35
minutes to it.
9 hours 35 minutes = (9 × 60) minutes + 35 minutes (1 hour =
60 minutes)
=
540 minutes + 35 minutes = 575 minutes.
5. Convert 7 hours 49 minutes into minutes.
First, we convert 7 hours into minutes and then we add 49
minutes to it.
7 hours 49 minutes = (7 × 60) minutes + 49 minutes (1 hour =
60 minutes)
=
420 minutes + 49 minutes = 469 minutes.
6. Convert 7 hours 45 minutes into minutes.
1 hour = 60 minutes
7 hours = 7 × 60 minutes
=
420 minutes
7 hours 45 minutes = 420 minutes + 45 minutes
= 465 minutes
Word Problems on Conversion of Hours into Minutes:
1. Anthony studied for five and half hours. How many minutes did he study?
Solution:
Here, 5 hours = 5 × 60 minutes
= 300 minutes
and half hour = 12 of 60 minutes
= 60 ÷ 2
= 30 minutes.
So, 5 and half hours = 300 minutes + 30 minutes
= 330 minutes
Therefore, Anthony studied for 330 minutes.
