Length is measured in various units such as Kilometer, Hectometer, Decameter, Meter, Decimeter, Centimeter, and Millimeter.
An easy and interesting way to remember this is the following statement.
The ‘M’ in Mother stands for METER.
Meter is the standard unit of length.
Between 2 units there is a jump of 10. Kilometre or km is the largest unit of length. Millimetre or mm is the smallest unit.
For Example:
1. km → m
1 km = 1000 m
Therefore, 3 km = 3000 m
2. m → cm
1 m = 100 cm
Therefore, 5 m = 500 cm
3. hm → dm
1 hm = 1000 dm
Therefore, 15 hm = 15000 dm
For Example:
1. mm → cm
1 mm = 1/10 cm
Therefore, 2 mm = 2/10 cm
2. dm → dam
1 dm = 1/100 dam
Therefore, 7 dm = 7/100 dam
3. cm → m
1 cm = 1/100 m
Therefore, 7.5 cm = 7.5/100 m
