Addition and Subtraction of Money

In Addition and Subtraction of Money we will learn how to add money and how to subtract money. 

Addition of Money:

There are two ways of adding money as shown in the given examples.

1. Add ₹ 81.45 and ₹ 125.65.

Solution:

Add Money Method

First Method:

Step II: Write in columns such that the dots are exactly one below the other.

Step II: Add the paise first and then the rupees.

Step III: Regroup if required.

Second Method:

₹ 81.45 + ₹ 125.65 = ₹ 207.10


Subtraction of Money:

There are two ways of subtracting money as shown in the given examples.

1. Subtract ₹ 93.05 from ₹ 140.50.

Subtraction Money Method

Solution:

First Method:

Step I: Write in columns such that the dots are exactly one below the other.

Step II: Subtract the paise first and then the rupees.

Step III: Regroup if required.


Second Method:

₹ 140.50 - ₹ 93.05 = ₹ 47.45


Combine Addition and Subtraction of Money:

1. Subtract the sum of ₹ 16.22 and ₹ 31.05 from ₹ 78.63.

Solution:

Therefore, the answer is ₹ 31.36.


Word Problems on Combination of Addition and Subtraction of Money:

1. Michael bought a glue stick for ₹ 17.50 and a note book for ₹ 24.50. He gave ₹ 50 to the  shopkeeper. How much he got back?

Solution:

Cost of a glue stick  =       ₹ 17 . 50

Cost of a note book =   +  ₹ 24 . 50

Money spent in all   =       ₹ 42 . 00

  

He paid          =      ₹ 50 . 00

Cost of items  =  -  ₹ 40 . 00

He got back    =     ₹ 10 . 00

Therefore, Michael got back ₹ 10.
