        14            7         Step 1: Add ones 7 + 6 = 13 = 1 ten + 3 ones

    +    2            6         Step 2: Carry 1 ten to the tens column

          7            3         Step 3: Add tens = 4 tens + 2 tens + 1 ten = 7 tens
