Practice the questions given in the worksheet on adding and subtracting like terms. The questions are based on adding and subtracting like terms we need to collect different groups of like terms and then we need to find the sum and the difference of like terms in each group.

1. Add the following terms:

(i) 5a, -3a, -7a and 8a

(ii) 4x3, -9x3, 4x3 and -3x3

(iii) 4abc, -7abc, -9abc and 5abc

(iv) 4x2yz, -3x2yz, 7x2yz and -9x2yz

(v) -7a2b, ba2, -8ba2, 11a2b and -9a2b

(vi) 9xy, -2xy, 6xy, -4ay and xy

(vii) 12mn, -16mn, mn, - 7mn and 3mn

(viii) -6abz, 10abz, -3abz and 9abz

2. Subtract the following terms:

(i) 10a from 15a

(ii) 2x from -12x

(iii) 5x2 from 9x2

(iii) 18z2 from 10z2

(iv) -14x2y2 from 2x2y2

(v) 16ab from 11ab

(vi) 17x5y7 from 15x5y7

(vii) m^4n2 from 6n2m4

(viii) -9abxy from 2abxy

(i) 3a, 11a, a and 32a

(ii) -3x, -7x, -5x and 11x

(iii) 7ab, 2ab, -3ab, -5ab and ab

(iv) 5s, 2s, -3s, -s, -5s and s

(v) 5m, -3m, -7m, -21m and 15m

4. Simplify by combining like terms:

(i) 5z2 – 11z + 4z2 + 2z

(ii) 4x3 - 8x2 + 12x2 - 15x3

(iii) -13a2b + 9ab2 - 5a2b + ab2

(iv) m3 + m2 + m – 3m + 5m2 - 9m3

(v) -8p3q2 + 10p2q3 – 8p3q2 – 8p2q3 + 5p3q2

(vi) 4a - 3b + 6c + 8a + 8b - 4c

(vii) p - 4q - 7r + 4r + 9p – 7q -3r + p - 5q

(viii) pq + 2qr – 3rp + 5pq + 6rp – 2qr + 8pq – 5qr + 3rp - 3rp
