Integers and the Number Line

Here we will learn about the integers and the number line.

The set of integers, I = {……, -7, -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, ……}.

Now we will learn about representation of integers on the number line. The number line representing the integers is as given below:


Integers and the Number Line

(i) On the number line, the positive integers are shown on the right side of zero and negative integers on the left side of zero.

(ii) The opposite integers 1 and -1 are marked at the same distances from zero; so are 2 and -2; 3 and -3 and so on.

(iii) The arrows marked, at both the ends of a number line, represent that the integers, both positive and negative; are infinite.
