Here we will learn addition of 3-digit numbers using expanded form.
Let's try to solve the following example:
1. Add 326 and 143.
Solution:
326 = 3 hundreds + 2 tens + 6 ones
+ 143 = + 1 hundred + 4 tens + 3 ones
Sum = 4 hundreds + 6 tens + 9 ones = 469
2. Add 372 and 217 using expanded form.
Solution:
372 = 3 hundreds + 7 tens + 2 ones
+ 217 = + 2 hundreds + 1 ten + 7 ones
Sum = 5 hundreds + 8 tens + 9 ones = 589
3. Add 701 and 295 using expanded form.
Solution:
701 = 7 hundreds + 0 tens + 1 one
+ 295 = + 2 hundreds + 9 tens + 5 ones
Sum = 9 hundreds + 9 tens + 6 ones = 996
4. Add 635 and 260 using expanded form.
Solution:
635 = 6 hundreds + 3 tens + 5 ones
+ 260 = + 2 hundreds + 6 tens + 0 ones
Sum = 8 hundreds + 9 tens + 5 ones = 895
