1. Add the following:

2. Find the sum of:

(i) 23457 + 42865 + 54093

(ii) 126906 + 436136 + 167263

3. The cost of a motor cycle is $ 20411 more than that of a scooter. If the scooter costs $ 34,739, find the total cost of the scooter and the motor cycle.




4. In a village there are 2456 men, 2367 women and 1359 children. Find the total population of the village.



5. Find the difference of :

(i) 4363 and 5176

(ii) 10034 and 99999



6. Subtract:

(i) 8 0 0 0 4 - 7 9 2 8 1 = ____________ .

(ii) 6 5 8 9 4 6 - 2 4 3 5 3 8 = ____________ .

(iii) 5 2 8 3 4 5 - 1 9 2 8 3 7 = ____________ .



7. (i) What must be added to 3126 to get 6742?

(ii) What must be subtracted from 9481 to get 6923?



8. The difference of two numbers is 2068. If the greater number is 6000, find the smaller one.



9. The difference of two numbers is 3087. If the minuend is 73182, find the subtrahend.



10. Find the place value of 8 and 7 in 98673 and also find their difference.



11. Simplify: 25,879 - 12,432 + 65,649 - 29,697



12. In a parliamentary election, there were 3 candidates and total polled votes 99,375 in all. Two candidates received 54,000 and 18,970 votes separately. If 5,103 votes were cancelled, find the number of votes received by the third candidate.



13. Find the number which if subtracted from 93284, becomes 26082.



14. What should be added to 99999 to get 100000?



15. If there are 34,786 men, 23982 women and 13,057 children in a town, then estimate the total population to the nearest hundred and also the actual population.



16. Use the digits 2, 4, 6, 7 and 0. Make the greatest and the smallest 5-digit numbers without using any number twice. Find (i) the sum and (ii) the difference of the two numbers such formed.



17. The sum of two numbers is 47035. If one number is 26972, find the other number.



18. A school library has 9,720 books in French, 5,656 books in English and 7,620 books on mathematics. How many books are there in the library? How many more books are in French than in English?



19. The difference of two numbers is 9728. If the greater number is 65537, find the smaller number. Find also the sum of both the numbers.



20. Kate and Clara purchased plots costing $ 590,575. If the cost of one plot is 320,000, what is the cost of the other plot?
